I was born and raised in South Africa, and later moved to Hong Kong when my husband was offered an amazing job opportunity here.
I’ve always loved to travel, and along the way I’ve become a self-taught photographer. But my woodwork journey? Like so many good stories, it actually started with wine - or more accurately, an empty wine crate.
Growing up, I watched my dad doing carpentry in his spare time, and I’ve always had a deep appreciation for wood as a material. During the pandemic, when travel wasn’t really possible, I finally had the time and space to experiment with wood designs and teach myself new skills. One day, after my husband and I finished a bottle of wine, I looked at the empty crate and thought - why not cut it up and see what I can make? That simple moment sparked something in me, and it’s been a creative adventure ever since.
I primarily use recycled or repurposed wood - sourced from discarded furniture, gifted scraps, or unwanted materials - giving new life to what was once overlooked. There’s something incredibly rewarding about giving wood a new life instead of letting it end up in a landfill.
I’m especially drawn to geometric and three-dimensional designs, but I’m always playing with new ideas and experimenting with fresh concepts.
I had to learn a few things.
